Connecting People to Jesus

BridgeWay Baptist Church exists as a bridge, to connect others to Christ.

BridgeWay is a family – a Bible-believing, Jesus following family. We believe that God "so loved the world", and that He sent Jesus because of that love. We are serious about God’s truth and Jesus’ mission – The Gospel. We love God and each other, we are growing together in God’s Word, and we seek to serve others with authentic grace and humility. If you need a place to belong and want to experience spiritual renewal, then BridgeWay is the place for you! Welcome!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
Romans 12:5

Our Vision

Assist people in discovering a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and growing a community of believers who are wholly committed to Him.

When we trust Christ as Saviour, we begin a personal relationship with Him; however, it is vital that we grow deeper in that relationship, have a community of believers around us for fellowship and accountability, and then spread the gospel locally and around the world.

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:1-2

Our Purpose

Love God. Grow Together. Serve Others.

The gospel is at the heart of everything we do, because we are followers of Christ and we desire to obey what Jesus commanded.

…All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen
Matthew 28:18-20

We are a family of believers in Jesus Christ, so every plan that is made, every activity that's planned has one top priority and goal – the gospel! We desire to follow the pattern of the first-century church by reaching and making disciples in our Jerusalem (Hawkes Bay). The book of Acts records this testimony of the church:

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
Acts 5:42
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
Acts 6:7

It is evident from this statement that this church was actively engaged in communicating the gospel, and the result was people became devoted followers of Jesus.

So, how does this happen? How can this purpose begin and become a reality?

Love God.

First, we must trust Christ as Saviour and have a personal relationship with Him. Then, as we submit ourselves to the Lord, God's love can grow within us and spread when we meet with our family of believers to worship God through corporate praise to the Lord and the teaching of His Word.

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
John 13:34-35

Grow Together.

A family needs communication and community to grow together. In this same way, our BridgeWay family grows through Christian fellowship and the preaching of God's Word. We teach the Bible in every service, at every activity, and through continual one-on-one discipleship.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers . . . Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
Acts 2:42, 47

Serve Others.

Jesus served others! And, He desires us to use our God-given gifts to serve others as well. BridgeWay is a place for family members to realize and use their gifts through the care of others, outreach, and missions.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. . .But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant. . .
Philippians 2:5,7
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. . .For the body is not one member, but many.
1 Corinthians 12:4,14
